Heading off to the states again!
A big HI2U to everyone from the LAN scene, esp Devar, Gogo, Yavin, Siggy, Wol and Nic and HL-Rally modeller and CoD:UO extraordinare, S0MEGuY. Will see you all in 2 weeks anyway, when I get back and rock up to WolsLAN :D
Valves putting the bill to fly me to Seattle this time to their offices, big excitement, get to meet Scott 'Fragmented' for the first time, and of course all the big wigs at Valve, like Gabe and that ;) And of course HL2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111oneoneone!
Wow, its only been 3 or 4 months since the last update, getting a bit excited with the website heh!
Be back on 13th October
Well the first semester of DFI (see below) class is over, and looks like everything is ship-shape. As far as I know, I've passed all my units albeit with a few late assignments here and there. Its been a fantastic experience so far, and I've learned and refined skills like Design Illustration and I've even come to appreciate the many skills and uses of hand-drafting. Visual Development was a blast, even though it required hundreds of drawings and many hours of refining images for the exhibition, it was a really valuable experience. All in the first semester, I can't wait to see what awaits next semester!
In other news, I've started up a lil DeviantArt profile.. (well I had it for years, just never used it) you can view it here:
http://creme.deviantart.com
I've really only just started filling it up with various photos and stuff like that, its amazing browsing thru the absolutely huge amount of artists and images featured on this site. Truly inspirational.
For anyone who hasn't seen it (where have you been? hiding under the rock with me?) Visit
deviantart.com and be inspired!
Also, with the help of SatanNic of
WestLAN fame, I've polished off another website:
Ideal Plastic Concepts, featuring their new staging system:
StagePak. Targeted mainly for school presentations and the like, feel free to enjoy the fruits of our labours in conventional web design:
http://www.idealplasticconcepts.com.au
The
image/
photo scripts in the previous news post have been revamped as well, and feature sorting and monthly archiving! Ahh PHP how I love thee, sooo therapeutic to muck about with.
That's all for now.

Design for Industry

Another 20 months since I updated the site! Breaks the record again!

Been busy in the last 9 weeks, starting study at West Australian School of Art, Design and Media (Part of
Central Tafe), studying Industrial Design. What is Industrial Design? Well its a general Design field centered around Product Design.
Industrial designers are on the cutting-edge of design as their practical solutions to problem solving improves everyday life for thousands of people. This could be in the form of a chair for the disabled, a water fountain, a CD case, a shopping trolley or a new design for a car or plane.
(from http://www.dab.uts.edu.au/industrial/welcome.html)
And a much more detailed description on the skills and roles of Industrial Designers can be found
here:
See also: http://www.idsa.org/
Between studying full time and work, there isn't much time for personal projects like this site, and
HL-Rally, etc, however every now and then I'll try keep the ball rolling. I'd particularly like to update the images & photo's section.
For now I'll show you the listing pages available:
One of these days I'll post all the photos from the Mod-Expo trip. Mind you, they arent that interesting :P

Creme Does Dallas (with HL-Rally!)

Holy Cow Batman! Its been around 18 months since I updated the site! Yay! New world record!
Heres todays, no wait; this years 'Word of the Year' - Accension, as featured in my title slogan - A burning desire for accension.
\Ac*cen"sion\, n. The act of kindling or the state of being kindled; ignition. --Locke (
dictionary.com)
Hopefully that should clear up any further enquiries about whether or not its mispelt! Its likely I'll be redesigning and renaming the site at any rate. 'La-Cremeria' is on the cards, and fits in with my new age Creamy outlook on web design and production.
In other more important news, (if youve read this far) I was invited to Dallas Texas (USA) to feature
HL-Rally on behalf of the team. Valve LLC were kind enough to fly me over, and my fellow staffer Nick(diablone) drove down from Wisconsin. The Expo went off without a hitch and meeting the guys from Valve (Cliffe, Chris Bokitch(autolycus), Eric Smith, Eric Johnson, Doug Lombardi) and the other Mod guys were a blast too, particularly Ditlew (from BuzzyBots) and FrieChamp (MonkeyStrike). Also Sven Viking (Svencoop) and Alex Peterson (from Global Warfare) and the other guys who made their own way were cool too. It was really great to meet you all!
Being the adventurous type I enlisted FrieChamp (or Freddy as I know him!) to assist me in finding id Software somewhere in Mesquite, south of Dallas. We went to a number of sites, and had a great time with the Cabbie (erggh.. Dallas cabbies theres a whole story to be told there too) and finally found them in an unmarked office, after locating their impressive cache of cars out the back! We got a full tour and met most of the id staff. Thanks again Freddy for having the balls to come with us on the Wild Goose chase. To the rest of you whimps that didnt come with us.. HAH!
Reminder to self - Finish editorial and upload the pics from the trip!

Yeah baby, oh yes, work with me baby! And Im spent..

Well, its been a long time between drinks and the cremated design site has
been neglected for far too long. I've finally got my Digital Camera back,
and sensing the opportunity to upgrade it, as it has a new warranty, Ive
now got an even better one! I can now do 1600x1200 resolution photos, which
is plenty for the web graphics I predominantly use :)
Photo's section is starting to be compiled now, with some shots I took yesterday.
Stay tuned and visit some time later in the year for it to be completed!
Heres a taster!

Click for more pics!
The Half Life Rally track Im working on, now named the 'Valley of Darkness' is nearing completion,
so Ive decided to post a screenshot of one of the newer areas.
The
Half-Life Rally Team has aparently fully inducted me in to their ranks, and I'll shall no doubt produce great mapping joy for the team, and the many fans of the popular MOD.
In other news Ive been too busy getting stewed as a prune with some mates and havent gotten around to updating
the rest of the site. Im sure no-one is going to loose sleep over it :P

*Try saying that 3 times fast*

Well to the trained eye, you'll notice that the track (map) in these screen
shots is fairly early in development, and lacks refinement and ambient detail.
Some of the texturing needs work, ie: the small town/villiage is very plainly
textured, and much of the brush work needs tweaking. Ive got some scale issues
to address, like the barriers might look a little tall next to 20 pt wide rally
cars, we'll see.
(Hopefully soon..)
'r_speeds' are not as astronomical as you might think,
probably mostly due to my crash course in 'Hint Brush Surgery', which I must
say turned out some amazing results. Ive been religiously slaping Hints on
any edges that are getting wrongly cut because of the many undulations and
curves, and it works a treat. I'd recommend the technique to everyone.
{ gl_wireframe 1 (or 2) helps in this regard too }
I hope the sticky edge of clipment isnt going to cause too much duress on
the HL-Rally's vehicles moving around the track, as Ive noticed many of the
sloped areas cause Gordon to stub his little toe and valiantly hold his
position, for fear of running in to another Sticky Edge of Bullshittm

Cremated Design re-launched after over a year of hibernation
|
14th Dec 2000
|
Yes, you heard it here first! The world is in a state of bewilderment
over Crem's timely return to the mapping industry he once so loved.
Just as controversial as his departure from the mapping community late in 1998 when Quake was
seeing the Online Funeral of itself, Crem got into a fight with the organisers of the Funeral
proceedings after persistent and annoying demands that Quake be 'cremated' and the ashes cast
out upon Valve's company swimming pool and spa facilities! Hacked and slashed by the many p1mple
covered g33k-thugs armed with Bloody Quaketm Axes, Crem crawls away from the
limelight, for 12 months of face reconstruction surgery. And now... Well lets hear it from the
man himself:
"I am the angel of death. The time of purification is at hand!"
Oh, who cares!
(Yes.. its a Simpsons quote, dont blame my insanity!)
Well to those who can remember stuff.. from like ..last year, will know that this site looks a
little bit different than it used to.. No wait a minute.. Its been totally re-done, new
graphics, no more ~20 minute download times, and hopefully no down time from my previous hosting
dodgyness. Any flames regarding the drastic design changes can be directed to the wall behind you.
Have a nice day.
